A Study on the Plans for an Efficiency of Training and Supporting the Korean Language Teachers

The aims of the study are to examine the limitations of the present system
of certifying Korean language teaching, and to propose the plans for making
policies related to training, supporting, and administrating Korean language
teachers more systematically. In order to reach the aims, the study sets up
the particular goals as follows: First, the study investigates the actual
conditions of the management of the Korean language teacher training organs
and proposes the improvement plans. Second, the study looks into the actual
conditions of the activities of the holders of the Korean language teaching
certificate and suggests the plans for supporting them. Third, the study
analyses the problems of the management of the certificate system for Korean
language teacher and demonstrates the improving plans. Fourth, the study
provide the improving plans for revising the regulations on the certificate
system for Korean language teacher.
The research methods and procedures of the study are as follows: First, we
took in the actual conditions of the management of the Korean language
teacher training programs and those of the activities of the holders of the
Korean language teaching certificate by the survey through phone, emails, and
online. Next, we executed the literature review, held the meetings of advisors
and the public hearings in the four major regions, DaejeonㆍChungcheongㆍ
Honam, DaeguㆍGyeongbuk, BusanㆍGyeongnam, and SeoulㆍGyeonggiㆍ
Gangwon, with the interested people, and carried out the interviews by letter
and phone in person for laying down the administrative and institutional plans.
Finally, based on the results of the analysis, the study provide the improving
plans for the Korean language teacher training programs and the support plans
for the holders of the Korean language teaching certificate.
The study proposes the improvement plans and directions for enhancing an
efficiency of the Korean language teacher training as follows: First, the study
displays the plans for enhancing an efficiency of the Korean language teacher
training programs in accordance with the types of the institutions. The study
proposes the degree programs to aspire to achieve autonomy, expertise, and
differentiation of the curricula depending on the types of the degrees. The
study specifically suggests the establishment of the compulsory subjects,
enhancement of teaching practice, reduction of the sections, readjustment of
the compulsory credits, institutional tightness of teaching practice, and
reinforcement of the qualifications of the acquisition of the certificate.
